How it works

How Lanewise Auto works

A short form, a real look at your situation, and guidance you can act on. No sales pitch, no fee, no obligation.

1. Tell us what you want help with

Start with the guidance form. It asks for your state, the topic you want help with, and a name and email address so we can reply. A phone number is only needed if you want a call back or text alerts. There's room for your question in your own words, which helps us more than anything else on the form.

We never ask for a Social Security number, a driver's license number, or payment details, and nothing you enter is passed to an insurer, agent, or marketer.

2. We look at your situation

A member of our team reads your question against your state's minimum requirements and anything you tell us about your situation, such as whether your car is leased, financed, or owned. If you're dealing with something specific, such as an SR-22 filing, a lapse, a renewal increase, or a new driver, we look at that first.

3. You get guidance you can act on

We follow up by email or phone, usually within one business day, with a plain-English explanation of your question and clear next steps: what to ask your insurer, how people commonly think about coverage levels relative to what they own and owe, and what to watch for. If you separately opt in, Lanewise Auto Alerts can also text you: you choose updates about your request, car insurance tips, both, or neither. Each has its own optional box on the form, and message frequency varies, up to 4 messages per week across both message types. Text consent is never required, and you can reply STOP at any time to end both.

What we will and won't do

  • We will explain how coverage works, what the numbers on your policy mean, what your state requires, and how to approach a renewal, a claim, or a switch.
  • We will point you to the right guide or tool, and tell you which questions to put to your insurer in writing.
  • We won't sell, underwrite, or bind insurance. Any policy you buy, you buy directly from an insurer or a licensed agent you choose.
  • We won't pass your information to insurers, agents, or marketers. We are independent of insurers and agents; only service providers that help us run Lanewise Auto, such as hosting, form-processing, email, phone, and SMS delivery providers, handle your details.

What it costs

There is no fee for guidance, no subscription, and nothing to buy. Lanewise Auto is an educational service operated and funded by MetricLink Labs LLC. If you opt in to texts, your carrier's message and data rates may apply.

Before you start

If you have your current policy's declarations page handy, keep it nearby. Our guide to reading your declarations page explains what each line means, and the coverage calculator gives you a starting point for limits and deductibles in about two minutes, without entering any personal information.
